FOOTBALL FEVER HITS UNIVERSITY OF BATTAMBANG

From 11th to 13th  March 2011, the football pitch at the University of Battambang  came alive for  a football competition to select students to play in the National University Student Cup which starts in July this year. Other equally important reasons for the recent tournament included providing a sporting event so students could have some good, clean fun and build good relationships through healthy competition.

Organised  by the University of Battambang, the various faculties fielded a total of six teams and they were: Management Major Team, Information Technology major team, Financial and Banking major team, Agriculture major team, Tourism major team, Law major team.

After three days of elimination rounds the Management  and Information Technology teams faced off in the final.  It was a taught game for both teams, late in the first half the Management Team scored the first goal. Then, in a nail biting start to the second half IT got control of the ball, driving it into the penalty are from where a superb goal was scored. Management dominated the play for the remainder of the game, scoring a further three goals. When the final whistle blew, the score was 4-1 with Management being the victors.

The Closing Ceremony was attended by the President of the University, His Excellency Dr Touch Visalsok PhD. In addressing the players and the spectators he expressed his pleasure in the role of the university in helping the players to prepare for the competition. He said that sport is an important part of UBB’s education goals and that education and sport must be go hand in hand. Sport can provide students with relief from the stress of studying and enhance their communication skills. In closing, he said he was hopeful that the tournament would be even bigger in 2012.
